Found a 5K

If I get the gumption, and I get myself out of bed early (two big if's, btw), there's a 5K in the area on the 23rd.

Some recommendations from the NYT

Our friends at the New York Times weigh in with a lengthy article about things to see and do in Charleston, on the cheap. The article includes another rave for the Lost Dog Cafe, btw.

Places to Eat

Here's a quick round-up of places I found using Google:

  • Lost Dog Cafe: First off, this place is no relation to the Lost Dog in Ithaca. It's more like a coffee shop that serves breakfast all day. I wasn't so impressed when I looked at their menu, but the user reviews are all raves.
  • Taco Boy: It certainly doesn't look impressive, but once again user reviews are all raves. Sounds yummy!
  • The Trusted Palate: This is a wine bar in Charleston. I've never been there, but I hear good things.
  • Fig: Also in Charleston, this sounds like more of a fine-dining place. They focus on seasonal, locally-produced foods. Raves galore, but it sounds like it's always crowded. We'd probably need a reservation.

Coconut Cake!

Must eat cocunut cake at least once if not more! Penninsula Inn supposedly has THE best cake but seems stuffy to me.

All reviews point to SNOB, http://www.mavericksouthernkitchens.com/snob/index.html, as the best food.

Play in the water

I went surfing once, when I was about 15 or 16. Since I didn't know what I was doing, it was fun but also kinda sucked at the same time. Perhaps a lesson would help...

Oh, and kayaking. There's a bunch of marshes on the island, teeming with wildlife. There's even a chance to see dolphins.

First Post

Folly Beach is just a month away! I'm using this space to gather ideas for things to do, aside from just lazing about on the beach.
